Retail Operations Manager

A successful Retail Operations Manager will like working with people and being outside as well as be efficient and detail oriented in their work. Great customer service skills, an ability to work quickly and efficiently, and a good sense of humor are vital to this position. Interest in sustainable agriculture, local food systems, and/or cooking is a plus.

Primary Daily Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Set up and breakdown the Farmstand and maintain produce quality throughout the day (i.e. temperature control, hydration)
  • Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the Farmstand, including the area surrounding the stand
  • Communicate with the Farm Manager regarding what will be available for sale
  • Receive delivery orders from farm partners
  • Learn produce varieties, growing standards and work with the Farm Manager to select produce and quantities for the Farmstand
  • Assist the farm crew as needed with planting and harvesting produce
  • Assist with Farmer’s Market preparation and execution
  • Operate cash register, scales, and POS
  • Oversee the signage and displays in the Farm Stand to encourage sales
  • Track and report inventory of production supplies to Farm Manager
  • Event management: work with Farm Managers to plan and execute special events at the farm

Personnel Management:

  • First and foremost, the Farmstand Manager is the representative of the farm store and should be bright, cheerful and excel in customer service and salesmanship.
  • Responsible for, training, scheduling and managing all Farmstand labor. The manager should instruct the seasonal staff in what the farm has to offer and instill in them excellent customer service skills. Every Farm Stander is a sales person.

Qualifications & Preferences:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 2-years experience in a retail environment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Focus on quality and attention to detail
  • Ability to work efficiently doing outdoor physical labor, lift and carry up to 50 lb

Benefits:

  • Full time, year-round position (5 days per week; 7 – 9 hours each day)

Field Team Member

We are looking for an amazing individual to join our farm team! Our farm grows delicious heirloom vegetables using natural methods on approximately 12 acres of land in Pittsville, MD. We produce heirloom vegetables for a large local restaurant market, one farmers market, and our very own farm store.

Candidate must be comfortable working outside in safe weather conditions. Hours start earlier during the peak months of the growing season due to heat. This position is full-time and will begin work immediately.

  • Ability to focus on quality while performing repetitive tasks
  • Willingness to learn and take on responsibilities
  • A can-do attitude is a must!
